July 2026: Independence of the Mind
Happy July, everyone. While the entire country celebrates Independence Day with bright fireworks, music, and backyard barbecues, we sit quietly in our cells. It’s remarkably easy to feel a deep sense of bitterness when you completely lack physical freedom. But over the last 14 grueling years, I’ve discovered a profound, life-altering truth: they can lock up your physical body, but they can never lock up your mind. True independence is entirely internal. It’s the ultimate freedom to choose your own attitude in the face of immense adversity. It’s the freedom to fully forgive yourself for the past and hold onto hope for the future.
I am actively preparing my mind for the ultimate freedom. Let’s use this month to completely break the mental chains of anger, regret, and doubt. Stay strong, stay resilient, and keep moving forward. For the outside community, July 4th is a celebration of liberty, but for us, it is a stark reminder of what we are fighting to reclaim. Physical liberation means nothing if the mind is still shackled by the trauma and mistakes of the past. Conversely, mental liberation can be achieved right now, even behind maximum-security walls.
This is the message of hope that www.brandonbridges.com seeks to spread. We want to show the world that rehabilitation is not a passive process that begins on parole; it is an active, daily declaration of independence that happens inside a cell. When an inmate chooses education over apathy, they are declaring their independence. When they choose peace over violence, they are exercising their freedom. To the families who celebrate this month without us, know that our spirits are not broken. We are using this time to build the mental fortitude required to never return to this place. We are breaking the cycles of destruction and preparing to step back into society as free, healed, and productive men. Keep supporting us, keep believing in us, and remember that true freedom can never be contained by concrete and steel.
